The story

Organic materials

At Unravelau we use organic and recycled materials for our products. We understand that protecting nature is a major concern. That’s why we believe in the power of reusing materials. Because of today’s fast fashion system a lot of products are being discarded when there are still many possibilities to recycle them. “One man's trash is another man’s treasure.”

Fair work

Unravelau produces all their work in a fair way. Every product is made by hand in the atelier in Utrecht, The Netherlands. The products are made with love and care for fashion and the environment and are expected to be treated the same.

Eco Friendly

We want to be as eco friendly as possible. That’s why we reuse our patterns to save paper and separate any waste that is left. The waste that is created by producing the collection, like fabric and thread leftovers, are saved to be reused in following products.

Organic materials

Unravelau acknowledges the importance of conserving the environment and urges others to do so. Yet, today’s fashion system produces significant amounts of waste, and discards a lot of products for which new uses can be found. That’s why only organic and recycled materials are used.
“One man's trash is another man's treasure”.

For the latest collection of UNRAVELAU we reused jeans. The discarded jeans used in these products have their own unique wear pattern, and were collected from Dutch citizens. By wearing this product, you have given them a new life.

Special thanks to the following people who donated their jeans to UNRAVELAU: Kuyichi, Zoé Daemen , Marieke De Vree, Bonhoeffer College, Zoë Groenewegen, Hatice Tekin, Ayşe Önce, Katinka Springstof, Lisa te Giffel, Madhya Andhyaksa , Sanne Schelvis, Silke van Diemen, Dennis Hamersteen, Koen Van Essen, Keesjan Meijering, stichting De ARM Kringloop Centrum Utrecht, Wawollie Kringloop Utrecht, Emmaus, Kraayenest Kringloop, Terre des Hommes winkel Utrecht en Castricum helpt Muttathara

Fashion plays an important role in expressing who we are. Yet, we also see the big impact of the fashion industry on our society and environment. Sustainable fashion ensures that we remain able to express ourselves, but also within the boundaries of what our planet allows. This means that sustainable fashion has to be more than just a hype or philanthropy. The industry has to change, from raw materials to disposal and everything in between. Such a change does not happen overnight, it takes time. At Unravelau we try to make every decision as sustainable as possible, one step at a time but at least one step further than the day before.

Eco friendly

We want to be as eco friendly as possible. That’s why many of the used patterns are reused to also save materials during the design process. Waste from fabrics and thread leftovers are collected and saved for future use in new collections. Did you know for instance that the tags and stickers on the garments are made of recycled paper and printed with environment friendly ink? By making small sustainable steps we want to reach a business that is as eco friendly as possible.

All of the materials that are used to send our products to the costumers are reused. For instance the boxes that we use come from other clothing companies who don't need the boxes anymore.
The prints that we use on our garments are hand printed at a local company at Utrecht, called 'Katoen Fabriek'. The ink that they use is environmental friendly and are more durable than other printing techniques since they can be washed and ironed.
